ISAR Aerospace raises €150 million to strengthen Europe’s launch capabilities

German space startup ISAR Aerospace has raised €150 million in a Series B funding round, making it one of the most well-funded private space companies in Europe. The round was led by HV Capital and Lakestar, with participation from previous investors Earlybird and Vsquared Ventures.

The company plans to use the funds to further develop its launch vehicle, Spectrum, which is designed to carry small and medium-sized satellites into orbit. The Spectrum rocket is expected to have its first test launch in 2022 and will be capable of carrying payloads of up to 1,000kg.

The growing demand for small satellite launches

With the rise of the small satellite industry, there has been a growing demand for efficient and affordable launch options. This has created an opportunity for companies like ISAR Aerospace to enter the market and provide launch services for the growing number of small satellites.

“The small satellite market is experiencing explosive growth, and we see this trend continuing in the coming years. With our Spectrum rocket, we are able to offer reliable and cost-effective launch services for these satellites, which are crucial for various industries such as telecommunications, agriculture, and weather monitoring,” said Daniel Metzler, CEO and co-founder of ISAR Aerospace.

Strengthening Europe’s position in the space industry

ISAR Aerospace’s success in raising €150 million is a testament to the growing interest and investment in the European space industry. With the support of these funds, the company aims to strengthen Europe’s position in the global space market and reduce its reliance on non-European launch providers.

“We believe that ISAR Aerospace has the potential to become a major player in the European space industry. Their innovative technology and experienced team have positioned them as a strong competitor in the global market,” said Dr. Christian Reitberger, partner at HV Capital.

Continued growth and development

This latest funding round brings ISAR Aerospace’s total investment to over €180 million. The company plans to use the funds to expand its team, continue development of its launch vehicle, and establish its own production facilities.

“With this significant investment, we are able to accelerate our growth and continue our mission to provide reliable and affordable launch services for the small satellite market. We are grateful for the support and confidence from our investors and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead,” said Metzler.

With the growing demand for small satellite launches and the support of major investors, ISAR Aerospace is well-positioned to become a leading player in the European space industry. This is a positive sign for the growth and development of the space sector in Europe, as well as for the overall market in terms of innovation and competition.
